PrEP

PrEP (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis) is a HIV prevention strategy that involves taking antiretroviral medication to reduce your chances of acquiring HIV. PrEP is recommended for anyone who has a partner who is HIV positive with a detectable viral load, or for anyone having sex with people whose HIV status they are unsure of.

Taking PrEP every day is recommended and is highly effective at preventing the spread of HIV, PrEP only works if you take it regularly.

Some people take PrEP ‘on demand’, or only just before and after a sexual encounter, though there is not yet enough research available to indicate that this is a safe option for Trans, Gender Diverse or Non-Binary people. We recommend taking PrEP every day or using other prevention methods such as condoms etc.
